COMMISSION PROCESS
In over 20 years of furniture making, I have created custom pieces for people from Alaska to Florida. One of the pleasures of doing custom work is developing a personal relationship with my clients. I believe this works both ways - my clients seem to get an added value when they are involved in the creative process.
I have worked with people who have very specific ideas when they first contact me - and those who just know that they want something special. With your input we can design something unique. If you are open to ideas, I always have a list of projects that I dream of doing. Some of my best work has come from this list.
There is a lot that can be done with e-mail, scanned or faxed drawings, or mailed presentations. I have accomplished successful pieces this way, but I do believe that a face to face meeting, with a chance for me to see your available space, and get a feel for your personal tastes is helpful if possible. This is not too difficult if you live in the Pacific Northwest. If you are some distance from me, I am happy to travel to see you. I do not charge for my time, but do ask that you cover my travel expenses.
If you think you are interested in commissioning a piece, the first step is to call me. I'll try to answer any questions you have. I would be happy to send you quality copies of images of my work. I also have full portfolios available. I have a large collection of wood samples, finished with the same process I use on my furniture.
If it makes sense, we'll set up a meeting. Once I have a rough idea of the project's scope, I can give you some ball park pricing and scheduling estimates. References are available on request.
Design deposit: If you wish to proceed, I will ask for a design deposit. This is usually under $500 - and depends on the scope of the project. I will create scale drawings and a written proposal. The deposit will be applied to your down payment if you wish to proceed.
Down payment: 25% - I put you on my schedule.
Start work payment: 25% - Now is when the fun starts. I'll keep you up to date with progress photos and descriptions. If you wish to visit, you are more than welcome.
Final payment: 50% received on delivery, or prior to shipping. I have access to quality, insured, crating and shipping or I'll deliver it locally myself at no charge. Any applicable taxes and/or shipping related expenses are also due at this time.
